The Performance Improvement Institute at the Kern Community College District is offering a grant funded training program at no charge to individuals who qualify to help prepare them for careers working as Warehousing, Distribution and Logistic professionals.

Relevant program content spans: Warehousing & Distribution Center Operations, Transportation Operations, Forklift Certification, Logistics Planning & Management Services, Facility and Mobile Equipment Maintenance, Transportation Systems/Infrastructure, Health & Safety, Sales & Service and IT.

Logistics Overview

Trainees will learn Logistics is the detailed coordination of a complex operation involving many people, facilities, or supplies; the commercial activity of transporting goods to customers. Program objectives include learning about the responsibilities for the movement of raw materials and component parts into and within a business firm and for the distribution of finished products and services to customers. Trainees will understand having products and/or services in the right place at the right time is critical for success in any business, and that logistics plays a critical role in a firm's comprehensive supply chain. The program exposes learners to career exploration in the logistics field and offers trainees the opportunity to make a significant contribution to effectiveness in this area.

Career Opportunities in Logistics

Logistics opportunities are in demand in a variety of business sectors, including Distribution Centers, manufacturing, merchandising, service institutions, transportation, third-party logistics, government, and consulting.

In order to be eligible for the program, individuals MUST meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Hold a high school diploma, certificate of completion or GED
  • No violent felony convictions
