Dr. Sean C. Hancock brings more than 25 years of leadership and service in California
community colleges, with a career dedicated to expanding student opportunity, strengthening
educational pathways, and building meaningful partnerships with the communities colleges
serve. As Chancellor of the Kern Community College District, he works alongside the
students, employees, and communities of Bakersfield College, Cerro Coso Community
College, and Porterville College to expand educational opportunity throughout Kern
County and the region. He is committed to working collaboratively with students, employees,
trustees, and community partners to advance educational excellence and create opportunities
that transform lives.
Before serving as Chancellor, Dr. Hancock was President of Cerro Coso Community College, where he led initiatives that expanded access to higher education, strengthened workforce and career education programs, and fostered partnerships with K–12 schools, industry, and regional organizations. Throughout his career, he has championed student success, equitable outcomes, innovation, and shared governance.
A proud California community college alumnus, Dr. Hancock holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration from the University of the Pacific, a Master of Business Administration from TUI University, a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Organizational Development from Fresno Pacific University, and an Associate of Arts degree from College of the Sequoias. He is also a Fellow of the UC Davis Wheelhouse CEO Institute and an Aspen Rising Presidents Fellow.
Dr. Hancock believes that strong relationships, collaboration, and a shared commitment to student success are the foundation of thriving colleges and communities. Inspired by the transformative power of education in his own life, he is dedicated to ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve their goals.
