The Kern Community College District (KCCD) Leadership Academy is an internal professional
development program designed to cultivate leadership skills across all levels of the
organization. Open to faculty, classified professionals, and managers, the Academy
prepares employees for leadership roles while supporting student and community success.
Through experiential, cohort-based learning, participants engage in monthly workshops
from September through April, interact with district executives, trustees, and state-level
education leaders, and build meaningful cross-district relationships. The program
also includes conference travel and a team project aligned with KCCD’s Strategic Plan.

Format: Monthly full-day, in-person seminars
Location: District Office and KCCD colleges
Capstone: Team project presented to district leadership
Special Experience: Multi-day leadership conference in Sacramento, CA
Who Should Apply
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Full-time employees:
Minimum of 3 years (faculty or classified), OR
Minimum of 1 year (administrators)
Part-time employees:
10-month employees or greater
Equivalent of 3 consecutive years of full-time service

Active involvement in committees, programs, or initiatives beyond their primary role
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Program Expectations & Commitment
Participation in the Leadership Academy requires a strong commitment:
Attend all scheduled sessions (September–April)
Participate in a multi-day Sacramento conference (January)
Complete reflective assignments outside of seminar sessions
Collaborate on a team project and present findings in April
Important Notes:
Participation in the Leadership Academy is considered a professional development opportunity
and is not compensated beyond regular employment
Some sessions may require time away from regular duties
Faculty participants should plan ahead for schedule adjustments during the spring
semester
Program Schedule
Sessions are held monthly, typically on Fridays, from September through April.
Includes:
Full-day seminars at various KCCD locations
January travel experience (Saturday–Monday)
One required Board of Trustees meeting held on a Thursday
