Dr. Sonya Christian, Chancellor

Welcome to the website of the Kern Community College District. The Kern Community College District encompasses Bakersfield College, Cerro Coso Community College, and Porterville College. I encourage you to review this website as well as the websites of each of our colleges. On these many electronic pages, you'll find a common thread: a dedication to serving our students' needs.

In the Kern Community College District, our collective desire is to set our students on a path to success. We embrace the student success initiatives proffered by the State of California, Achieving the Dream, and other organizations. We strive to incorporate every opportunity to help our students achieve their desired educational outcomes. Each of our colleges has adopted some of the high impact practices known to deepen students' engagement in the college experience. These practices include learning communities, first-year seminars and experiences for new college students, and academic goal setting and planning tools that direct students on a path to educational completion.

Our students come to us with visions of their future. Whether a student's goal is to transfer to a university; build up writing, reading and math abilities; or master essential workforce skills, we stand ready to help our students achieve their dreams.

Once again, thank you for visiting our website, and thank you for supporting Kern Community College District in our mission to provide outstanding educational programs and services that are responsive to our diverse students and communities.

Sincerely,
Sonya Christian signature
