Basic Construction Training

Designed for individuals new to the construction industry, this program covers fundamental skills such as tool handling, safety protocols, and blueprint reading. Participants will also receive training in workplace professionalism, communication, and teamwork to enhance employability.

  • Safety & OSHA Compliance – Basic job site safety, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), OSHA 10 & CPR certifications.
  • Hand & Power Tools – Identification, safe usage, and maintenance.
  • Material Handling – Safety guidelines for workers handling materials on the job site. Proper procedures and techniques to use when lifting, stacking, transporting, and unloading materials. Introduction to basic motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment commonly found in the construction environment.
  • Construction Drawings – Understanding construction plans and schematics.
  • Construction Math – Basic math skills essential for construction trades, including whole numbers, fractions, decimals, measurements, and geometry.
  • Rigging – Identifies different types of rigging slings and hardware. Describes how to inspect and use these items.
  • Communication - Essential communication skills for construction professionals, covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with a focus on clear and effective communication in the workplace
  • Employability -Foundational skills for finding a job and succeeding in the construction trades. Includes job search, problem-solving, and effective communication

Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Training

 

A specialized course for those looking to enter the growing EV industry. Topics include electrical knowledge foundations, electrical safety, and a pre-apprenticeship at the IBEW Local 428. This program sets students on the pathway to becoming certified to work on EV Charging stations. The program also incorporates job readiness skills such as resume building, interview preparation, and industry networking strategies.

  • Safety & OSHA Compliance – Basic job site safety, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), OSHA 10 & CPR certifications.
  • Introduction to Clean Energy & Careers – Overview of renewable energy field and career paths such as EV Charger Installation and Maintenance, Solar Installation, Supply Chain, Sales, and Permitting.
  • Electrical Safety – NFPA70e certification, LOTO, electrical hazards, PPE, electrical safety program. 
  • Electrical Knowledge Foundations – Fundamental understanding of electrical systems, including AC and DC circuits, Ohm's law, and safety precautions for working with high-voltage systems. 
  • Personal Finance- Earning and spending; savings and investing; credit and debt; protection of assets; and financial planning and decision-making.

Solar Installation Training

 

This program provides foundational knowledge and hands-on training in solar panel installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. In addition to technical training, participants will gain insight into industry certifications, customer communication, and workplace expectations to improve job prospects.

  • Introduction to Clean Energy & Careers – Overview of renewable energy field and career paths such as EV Charger Installation and Maintenance, Solar Installation, Supply Chain, Sales, and Permitting.

  • Hand & Power Tools- Identification, safe usage, and maintenance.
  • System Installation & Inspection- Installation requirements, surface preparation steps, establishing wiring and raceways, installing a rack-mount system, the process of commissioning a solar PV system.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting- Identify the tools and equipment required for maintaining and troubleshooting PV systems.
  • Roofing Fundamentals- fundamentals of roofing and safety.
  • Roof and Ground mounted solar PV- The general process of installing a ground-mounted or roof mounted solar PV system.

Basic Electrical Concepts (for Non-Electricians)

 

Ideal for those in construction or related trades, this training covers electrical fundamentals, safety regulations, and wiring basics. Employability skills such as problem-solving, professional conduct, and teamwork are also emphasized to help participants transition into electrical or construction-related roles.

  • EV Charging Infrastructure & Equipment Basics- Operation and components of common EV charging equipment, including levels 1, 2, and 3 charging stations, cables, connectors, software, and hardware systems used in EV charging.
  • Technical Knowledge- OEM deep dive, pilot and proximity signals, battery management systems & storage, and load management.
  • Repair & Maintenance Skills- Repair and maintenance procedures for Electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), including replacing damaged cables, connectors, and other components, as well as performing preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Trouble Shooting- Ability to identify and diagnose problems with EVSE equipment, including issues related to charging equipment, cables, and connectors.
  • Communications Protocol- Laptop/operating system basics, computer navigation, signal meter, OCPP, network topology, and security.
  • Customer Service & Employability- Time management, adaptability, problem solving, ticket maintenance, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Pre-Apprenticeship

Located on site in collaboration with the IBEW Local 428, this program is designed to prepare individuals for entry into skilled trade apprenticeships and foundational training across multiple disciplines. Participants will gain hands-on experience, industry knowledge, and employability skills to enhance their readiness for formal apprenticeship programs.

  • Introduction to Skilled Trades – Overview of various trade career paths, expectations, and industry demands.
  • Math for Trades – Practical application of math concepts used in skilled trades.
  • Workplace Readiness – Resume building, interview preparation, and professional communication.
  • Hands-on Training – Exposure to electrical work and electrical safety practices.

Utility Line Clearance Arborist

 

Aimed at individuals interested in tree care and maintenance near powerlines, this program covers pruning techniques, tree health assessment, and safe climbing practices. The course also includes training in customer service, workplace safety, and business basics for those looking to start a career in arboriculture.

  • Safety & OSHA Compliance – Basic job site safety, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), OSHA 10 & CPR certifications.
  • Introduction to Arborist- Foundational knowledge and skills for tree care.
  • Tree Identification- Learn to recognize common tree species and their characteristics.
  • Electrical Hazard Awareness Program- Equips arborists with the knowledge and skills to safely work around power lines.
  • Chainsaw Operations- Understand and practice safe chainsaw operation. 
  • Mobile Equipment- Become familiar with common arboriculture tools and equipment.
  • Aerial Lift Operations- An explanation of electrical, fall and struck-by hazards. Skills and knowledge needed to operate an aerial lift or mobile scaffold.
  • Tree Biology- Understanding tree structure, function, and growth patterns.
  • Pruning & Climbing- Learn proper pruning methods to promote tree health, safety, and aesthetics.
  • Basic Climbing- Learn basic climbing techniques, including knot tying and safety protocols. 
  • Fire Safety- Understanding Public Resources Code 4292, firebreak requirements, and safe practices for working around energized lines, as well as local fire authority guidelines.

Utility Vegetation Management Pre-Inspector

This specialized training prepares individuals for careers in utility vegetation management, ensuring power lines and infrastructure remain safe from hazardous vegetation. The course covers:

  • Intro to Utility Vegetation Management- Overview of the role of a Utility Line Vegetation Management Pre-Inspector.
  • General Safety, Tree Biology, Tree ID & Location- Overview of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), tools, and safety practices. Understanding tree structure, function, and growth patterns. Learn to recognize common tree species and their characteristics
  • Utility Tree Risk Assessment- Systematic process to evaluate and manage the risks posed by trees to utility infrastructure.
  • Hazard Tree Assessment- Learn to identify defects in structure, disease or any other factor that could undermine the stability of a tree
  • Additional topics- Contracts, customer communication, inventory, right tree, reporting, and electronic tools & inventories.
