The Bakersfield College Library hosted a DeStress Week of events to give students the opportunity to take breaks in between study sessions in preparation for final exams next week.

Both the Panorama and Delano campus libraries hosted their own series of events including therapy dogs, puzzles, games, Renegade story time, holiday movies and treats, a hot cocoa bar, and ornament making and other crafts.

They ended the week-long event on November 30th with a book bathing event on the second floor of the library on the Panorama campus. In addition, the Delano campus library wrapped up their DeStress Week with holiday movies and treats in the Writing Center area of the LRC.

The DeStress Week was intended to help students cope with the stress of their end of term responsibilities, especially because students tend to struggle with a loss of motivation related to the holidays.

This idea came about in 2016, and has been an ongoing event since then. Our librarians at both campuses have done an excellent job putting it together.

“I enjoyed getting to see students in the library relaxing and having fun during what is typically a very stressful and busy week for them. The library is where so many BC students study, but that means it is also a place where they are stressed out or overwhelmed, so I love watching them express their joy here.” says Librarian, Faith Bradham.

They were able to help students overcome the barriers and now they can finish their semester off strong and enjoy their holiday break with friends and family.
