Elements of Student Success (ESS)
What's New in ESS 2020
ESS cohort. We are no longer using our Mangement Information System (MIS) to determine the ESS cohort. Instead we are going back to using our Operational Data Store (ODS). Also, instead of heavily relying on Functions, we have recreated the cohort using calculations created by the Institutional Research Office.
Elements are no longer assigned a letter.
The new Entry Portal allows you to jump to more detailed dahsboards by simply clicking on a rate, percentage point change or graph.

Elements of Student Success (ESS) reports success metrics for the Achieving the Dream initiative, which KCCD joined in 2013 (Elements of the AACC Pathways Project were also implemented into this report in 2015). Success metrics, or elements, are tracked for first time degree seeking cohorts.
Cohorts consist of first-time, degree-seeking students in each fall term and are referred to as the Student Success cohorts. Students previously enrolled as concurrent high school students were included. Students enrolled during the preceding summer were also included provided they enrolled in the fall term. Transfer students and students enrolled at prisons were not included. A degree-seeking student is a student who, in their first fall term, enrolled in either a course leading to a degree or certificate, or a CTE course coded as clearly occupational or higher. Students who did not enroll in a degreeapplicable or CTE course during their first term were also included if they declared a goal of transfer or degree/certificate completion.
