In 2013, the colleges in the Kern Community College District joined Achieving the Dream (ATD) and the KCCD IRR office started providing disaggregated student success data for ATD student success metrics. Originally, all the metrics were in three-year cohorts, which was more useful than the six-year cohorts in the state’s Student Success Scorecard. The colleges designed interventions to improve student success but it was difficult to evaluate the interventions when we had to wait three years to see whether the results for the current cohort improved. In an effort to provide more actionable information, the KCCD IRR office created the ESS reporting which combines long-term outcomes (from ATD metrics) with short-term milestones (initially from the AACC Pathways project). This new reporting allows colleges to evaluate both short-term milestones and long-term outcomes to assess whether interventions are having a positive impact on student success trends.
