The Clean Energy Center at the Kern Community College District is offering a grant-funded training program at no charge to individuals who qualify to help prepare them for careers working in the energy fields.

NCCER Core Construction Training prepares individuals for entry-level positions with utilities, utility contractors, solar contractors and oilfield service companies. NCCER Core Construction trainees get training in Basic Electricity, Safety (OSHA 10 card), and Working with Specialized Tools, Teamwork, Oil Field Passport, Communication, First Aid and CPR.

In order to be eligible for the NCCER Core Construction program, individuals must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Citizen or legal resident of the United States
  • Hold a high school diploma, certificate of completion or GED
  • No violent felony convictions

Core Construction Skills

The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum is a prerequisite to all other Level 1 construction craft curriculum. The NCCER Core Curriculum course features technical hints and tips from industry experts. Nine modules in all provide training in the following areas:

  • Basic Safety (including OSHA- 10 hour)
  • Introduction to Construction Math
  • Introduction to Hand Tools
  • Introduction to Power Tools
  • Construction Drawings
  • Basic Electrical
  • Basic Communication Skills
  • Basic Employability Skills
  • Introduction to Materials Handling

Completing this curriculum gives the trainee the basic skills needed to continue training in any craft area he or she chooses; it provides a solid foundation for working in any part of the construction industry. This four week course combines hands on practical exercises with intense classroom instruction taught by instructors with experience in the construction industry.
