Training at 21st Century Energy

The 21st Century Energy Center trains individuals for careers supporting both the clean energy and traditional oil and gas industries. Topics include safety, teamwork and communication, and technical skills which are desired by employers in the energy industry. Trainees will earn industry recognized certificates including the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certifications and highly-valued safety certifications. The 21st Century Energy Center training trains individuals new to the energy industry and individuals looking to upgrade their skills.

Programs Include:

  • Core Construction Skills — This training is a pre-requisite for most of the other trainings and prepares individuals to earn the NCCER Core Skills certification.  This training prepares individuals for entry-level laborer positions on a variety of energy projects.
  • Job Readiness — Pre employment training and job preparation skills.
  • Industrial Maintenance Technician — Individuals who complete this training will learn the electrical and mechanical skills which position them to be top candidates for entry-level Industrial Mechanic jobs.
  • Warehouseing and Logistics — Logistics opportunities are in demand in a variety of business sectors, including Distribution Centers, manufacturing, merchandising, service institutions, transportation, third-party logistics, government, and consulting.
  • Solar Photovoltaic Installer — This training prepares individuals for entry-level Solar installer positions. Trainees will earn the NCCER Solar Installer Level I certification and will be prepared to take the NABCEP examination.

Why NCCER Certification?

NCCER is a not-for-profit 501©(3) education foundation created in 1996 as The National Center for Construction Education and Research. It was developed with the support of more than 125 construction CEOs and various association and academic leaders who united to revolutionize training for the construction industry. Sharing the common goal of developing a safe and productive workforce, these companies created a standardized training and credentialing program for the industry.

NCCER develops standardized construction and maintenance curricula and assessments with portable credentials. These credentials are tracked through NCCER’s National Registry which allows organizations and companies to track the qualifications of their craft professionals and/or check the qualifications of possible new hires. The National Registry also assists craft professionals by maintaining their records in a secure database.

NCCER’s workforce development process of accreditation, instructor certification, standardized curriculum, national registry, assessment, and certification is a key component in the industry’s workforce development efforts. NCCER also drives multiple initiatives to enhance career development and recruitment efforts for the industry.
