Why are all students assigned a
college email address?
Due to recent spam problems and problems communicating with students via email because of college email being blocked due to blacklisting issues, requiring students to use our email system ensures we can communicate with our students all the time. You can, however, forward email from your student email account to another email account that you specify.
How
do I create my college assigned email address?
1) Login to MyBanWeb at https://banweb.kccd.edu
2) Select Personal Information
3) Select View Your Student/Employee ID and College Assigned Email Address
If you already have created your email address, a page containing information
about your student email account will be displayed.
If you have not created your email address, a short message will be displayed
and you will need to click on the “Create My Email Account” button.
Why did the user login name
change from my Student ID to my Email Account Name?
It was discovered that in some cases, both the Student ID and the
Student’s Name would be displayed in the email, which is not acceptable. Therefore, to log in and access your student
email account, you will need to login with you email account name. For example:
The email account name for John.Smith1234@email.bakersfieldcollege.edu is “John.Smith1234”
The email account name for David.Gonzales@email.portervillecollege.edu is “David.Gonzales”
Note: If you are using any other email clients, such as Outlook Express or a mobile device (cell phone, iPhone) to access your college assigned email account, you will need update that email client and change the login/username from your student id to your Email Account Name.
Why are we changing to Google Apps for
email?
There are many reasons:
1) Google will host the accounts for free.
2) Google provides over 7gig of space for each email account, something we
can’t do and will never be able to compete with.
3) Google has very smart people who have developed their spam/virus filtering
and it is exceptional. Our current system requires us to pay per mailbox for
spam/virus filtering and it is very expensive.
4) As part of Google Apps, we can provide web based versions of a word
processor, spreadsheet, presentations and other cool educational tools. These
apps are available from anywhere with an Internet connection.
Where do I go to login to my email?
For Bakersfield College http://email.bakersfieldcollege.edu
For Cerro Coso College http://email.cerrocoso.edu
For Porterville College http://email.portervillecollege.edu
What is my email account name?
What is my username?
Prior to October 16, 2009, you will access your email with your username. Your username is your Student ID (the number following the @ sign, for example @00001234. Do not include the @ sign as part of your login to your email). If you do not know your Student ID, you can log into My Banweb (http://banweb.kccd.edu) and your number is listed there (Click on “Personal Information” then “View Your Student/Employee ID”).
After October 16, 2009, you will access your email with your
email account name. Your email account name is the portion of your email
address prior to the “@” sign.
For example:
The Email Account Name for John.Smith1234@email.bakersfieldcollege.edu is “John.Smith1234”
The email account name for David.Gonzales@email.portervillecollege.edu is “David.Gonzales”
If you do not know your email address, see the “What is my email address?” FAQ.
What is my email address?
You can view your email address information on MyBanWeb.
1) Login to MyBanWeb at https://banweb.kccd.edu
2) Select Personal Information
3) Select View College Assigned Student Email Address
Note: Your email address may or may not have a four digit number after your last name. If you are not sure, look it up following these instructions.
Can I change my email account name or email address?
No.
What is my password?
Your password is the six digit PIN you use to login to MyBanweb
(https://banweb.kccd.edu).
What if I forget my PIN?
Your email account PIN and your MyBanWeb PIN are
synchronized to be the same. MyBanWeb has a process for resetting your PIN if you forget
it. Please go to https://banweb.kccd.edu
and follow the instructions for resetting your PIN. When you reset your MyBanWeb
PIN, your student email account PIN/password will also be changed.
How do I change my college provided email
password?
As part of numerous changes that are being made to reduce the number of user
ids and passwords students use to access college
systems, we require that your college provided email password and your MyBanWeb PIN be the same. To accomplish this, we have
designed things in a manner that will keep your college provided email password
and MyBanWeb PIN synchronized. To change your college
provided email password, you have to log into MyBanWeb
and change your PIN. This process will change both your MyBanWeb
PIN and your college provided email password.
