KCCD - H1N1 Virus Information |
|
|
Due to the heightened emergency situation in regard to the outbreak of the H1N1
Virus, the Kern Community College District Incident Command team has begun
contingency planning discussions about closure and evacuation proceedings for
the District Office. While the number of cases in the United States is 141, the
number of confirmed cases in California is only 16 (as of May 1, 2009). Although
no cases have been reported in Kern County, there was one “probable” case
reported in Tulare County. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.
Activating the Incident Command System team allows for the preparation, planning
and execution of programs which keep the District safe through an emergency, as
well as protection of the District’s interests post-emergency. Plans are in the
works to handle all aspects of an emergency situation, including class
cancellation, community partner/building tenant evacuation and essential
staffing needs during closure.
Activation of the Incident Command System also means that you will now receive
information and updates on Swine Flu from a singular point of contact – the
Incident Command System Public Information Officer. The person designated to
this role for the District Office is Amber Chiang. Communication will come from
this single source under the direction of the Incident Commander, currently Dr.
Doris Givens (through Monday, May 4th). Chancellor Sandra Serrano will resume
the role of Incident Commander upon her return on Tuesday May 5th. Because we
take this threat seriously and because it is important for us to be both
knowledgeable and prepared, the Incident Command System team wants you to be
aware of this situation as it pertains to our employees through a constant
source of accurate information.
We will update you with another email once the Incident Command System team has
been activated and contingency plans are implemented for the District Office.
Further updates about the H1N1 Virus will be made available on the Kern
Community College District website at www.kccd.edu
Any closure or evacuation information will be distributed through the KCCDAlert
emergency notification system, with updates and ongoing information posted to
www.kccd.edu It is very important to
make sure your employee contact information is updated. Please go online to
https://banweb.kccd.edu/ or call
Human Resources at 336-5140 to update your contact information. Current contact
information is essential to notify you in the event of a closure or evacuation.
Managers are also encouraged to locate and update phone trees in preparation for
communicating a closure or evacuation.
The Incident Command System team is currently planning contingencies for
personnel and payroll, as well as other essential ongoing business needs.
