Guidelines for Faculty or Staff and H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu) Screening during a
Pandemic Alert: |
|
|
As staff and faculty members you should be diligent about your own health care
needs. If you are exhibiting flu-like symptoms and have recently traveled to
infected regions (listed below) please see your physician immediately. If you
are unsure about what qualifies you to be screened for the H1N1 Virus (Swine
Flu) you may contact your local Health Department with your questions or
concerns. If a fellow employee or manager recommends or requests that you seek
medical attention, please take their advice. During this time of heightened
concern no one wants to be exposed to any virus.
Presently the H1N1 Virus evaluation is based on the following:
- Individual must exhibit flu-like symptoms (i.e. fever of 100+, sore throat,
cough).
- Recent travel to Mexico, San Diego, Sacramento, San Bernardino, Los Angeles,
Marin, San Luis Obispo, and Imperial Counties and experiencing general illness.
Just travelling to infected areas does not necessitate a flu screening.
Guidelines for employees returning to work post H1N1 Virus screening:
- Please present a medical clearance stating you are not contagious of any flu
virus and have been cleared of a positive H1N1 Virus Flu test.
- Prior to returning to work please be free of fever or any symptoms of viral
infection.
- If you are notified that you have tested positive for the H1N1 virus please
contact your Human Resource Department with the results immediately.
- If you test negative for the H1N1 virus but exhibits flu/cold symptoms you will
be encouraged to go home until you are fully recovered.
What a Health Center uses as Guidelines for the H1N1 flu virus testing:
-
Fever of 100+
-
Cough and/or sore throat
-
OR recent travel to Mexico or San Diego/Imperial Counties and Sacramento, San
Bernardino, Los Angeles, Marin, San Luis Obispo and present with cough and/or
sore throat.
-
Individual meets testing criteria and consultation with the County Department of
Health will occur prior to administration of test. If the County Department of
Health feels individual does not meet any of the updates testing requirements,
they will be treated for a general flu or cold.
*Due to the heighten concern for the spread of the H1N1 virus All EMPLOYEES
meeting the above criteria or have been asked to go home due to general illness
